Born of the ocean
He crawls its depths and fissures
Dreaming of sunlight
He stands on two feet
His arms join in, he can swim
His world expands
Poseidon visits
Chest bare but draped royally
Belt of golden shells
The god holds the boy
Quickly, the boy nicks a shell
Hides it in his hair
He forgets the shell
Grows tall and longs for dry land
To witness the sun
He breathes ocean air
Sees a landmass to the north
One stroke at a time
Pungent aromas
He is drawn towards dense jungle
He races inward
Spirits guard a lake
They coax him in, he receives
A ritual bath
They grip tight on him
Drag him towards the lake bottom
A shrine to folly
But then, light shoots up
A golden beam from his crown
He follows his light
The spirits look on
The man floats above the lake
Long goldenrod hair
His gaze parts the clouds
The sky a brilliant blue
Sunlight greets his skin
His marvelous shell
Drops from his head to his chest
Merges with his heart
The man is at peace
With each thought and each action
No effort wasted
From that day onward
Those who paid attention saw
Two suns in the sky
